First Selection as Part of FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index
Selected for the first time as a component stock of the FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index.The FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index is constructed by the global index provider FTSE Russell. It is an index incorporating the performance of Japanese companies in each sector which are relatively superior in terms of their handling of the environment, society, and governance (ESG). The index has been designed so as to be sector neutral.
This index has been adopted by Government Pension Investment Funds (GPIF) as an index for ESG, and is one of the most widely known indexes for ESG investment.
Consecutive Selection in the Global Niche Top Companies Selection 100 by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
In June 2020, ESPEC was selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for the 2020 Global Niche Top (GNT) Companies Selection 100. The GNT Companies Selection 100 list was started in FY 2013. The second list was compiled in 2020, and 113 companies were selected including those succeeding in a niche field even in a difficult business environment with a changing international situation. Following on from our first selection in FY 2013, ESPEC was also selected for the 2020 list as a top manufacturer of environmental test chambers.
ESPEC receives the Excellence Award in the 24th Environmental Communication Awards
In February 2021, the ESPEC Sustainability Report 2020 received the Excellence Award in the Environmental Report category at the 24th Environmental Communication Awards, which is organized by the Ministry of the Environment and the Global Environment Forum, a general incorporated foundation.
ESPEC Group’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets Obtain SBT Certification
In July 2023, the ESPEC Group's FY2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets received SBT (Science Based Targets) certification from the international SBT Initiative*.
The ESPEC Group has set the FY2030 environmental goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60% in SCOPE 1+2 (in-house emissions) and by 30% in SCOPE 3 (indirect emissions) compared to FY 2019.
This goal has been certified as a scientifically-grounded target for limiting the increase in global atmospheric temperatures to 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels as set forth in the Paris Agreement.
* An international initiative that encourages firms to set scientifically-grounded targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions so that the goals of the Paris Agreement may be achieved. Jointly managed by CDP, which is an NGO involved in environmental information disclosure, UNGC (United Nations Global Compact), WRI (World Resources Institute), and WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature).
ESPEC rated B in the CDP Climate Change Report 2022
In December 2022, ESPEC was graded as B, third from the top out of eight grades, in the CDP Climate Change Report 2022 published by CDP*, an international non- profit organization. In the 2022 survey, the climate change measures of more than 18,700 companies around the world were rankedin a system of eight grades (A, A-, B, B-, C, C-, D, and D-). We have received a grade of B for three consecutive years since FY2020, when we first voluntarily responded.
ESPEC selected for the First Time as a Supplier Engagement Leader, the Top Rank in the CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings
In March 2023, ESPEC was received the highest rating—an A score—at the FY 2022 Supplier Engagement Ratings conducted by the CDP*, and was selected for the first time as a Supplier Engagement Leader.
In FY 2022, the top 8% of companies which responded to the CDP climate change questionnaire (131 Japanese companies out of 653 companies worldwide) were selected as Supplier Engagement Leaders.
* CDP is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that surveys climate change, conservation of water resources, forest preservation, and other environmental measures taken by cities and corporations, and makes this information available to investors.
Selected as an Asia-Pacific Climate Leader for the First Time
In May 2023, Selected for the first time as one of the top 275 performers (including 130 companies from Japan) in the Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders survey, done in partnership with the Financial Times in the UK and German data provider Statista.
This study looks at companies with headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region and focuses on reductions of SCOPE 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions per unit of sales between 2016 and 2021.
ESPEC rated 4 stars in the 4th Nikkei SDGs Management Survey
In November 2022, ESPEC was rated 4 stars (deviation between 60 and less than 65) in the general ranking of the 4th Nikkei SDGs Management Survey, which is organized by Nikkei, Inc. (the Nihon Keizai Shimbun).
The Nikkei SDGs Management Survey rates corporate initiatives for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The companies are evaluated and given general scores in four categories of SDGs Strategy & Economic Value, Social Value, Environmental Value, and Governance.
ESPEC rated 3.5 stars in the 6th Nikkei Smart Work Management Survey
In November 2022, ESPEC was rated 3.5 stars in the 6th Nikkei Smart Work Management Survey. The Nikkei Smart Work Management Survey is organized by Nikkei, Inc. (the Nihon Keizai Shimbun), and it targets all listed companies and leading non-listed companies in Japan. These companies are ranked in a system of five grades, and selected as leading companies taking on the challenge of productivity innovations through workstyle reforms.
Ranked 122nd in the Decarbonized Management Ranking GX500 by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
In December 2022, ESPEC was ranked 122nd (grade BB) at the Decarbonized Management Ranking GX500 by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
The Decarbonized Management Rankings GX500 is a comprehensive assessment of corporate programs to achieve zero carbon emissions, selecting and ranking 500 top corporations from the GX (Green Transformation) age.
ESPEC ranked 155th in the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun’s 18th Corporate Strength Ranking
In October 2022, ESPEC was ranked 155th in the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun’s 18th Corporate Strength Ranking (sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). A company’s Corporate Strength Ranking is a comprehensive evaluation of the company from qualitative evaluation based on questionnaires and quantitative evaluation based on performance. The list is a selection of only those truly strong companies that act as models for their industries.
