Platinous J Series ECO Type Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers Receives the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2025
Oct 17, 2025
October 15, 2025 ESPEC CORP. (Principal Office: Kita-ku Osaka City, Representative Director and President: Satoshi Arata) Platinous J Series ECO Type Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers received the GOOD DESIGN AWARD in the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2025 operated by Japan Institute of Design Promotion. This is the 31st GOOD DESIGN AWARD that ESPEC CORP. has received.
Encouraged by this recent Award, and as a leader in environmental test chambers, ESPEC remains committed to providing products and services that meet our customers' expectations.
Evaluation Comments
- While carrying on the reliability of the temperature & humidity chamber, which has been used for many years in Japan and overseas, this product has evolved to meet the needs, such as energy-saving and a low global warming potential refrigerant (GWP)*1.
- The unified feel of the exterior, created by the R-shaped front surface and vertical lines, and the intuitive user interface with multi-language support combine to make this complex test device a sophisticated product.
- Furthermore, by flexibly responding to diverse specifications and requests for modifications, and with a redundancy that closely follows the changing needs of users, this product was appraised as an example of the way forward for test devices that will support manufacturing in the future.
Overview of winning product
As carbon neutrality regulations tighten in Japan and globally, there is a growing demand from customers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their supply chains. In addition, the Japanese government has enacted regulations under the Japan Act for Rationalized Use and Proper Management of Fluorocarbons (Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act)*2, mandating the use of refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP).
The Platinous J Series ECO type Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers launched in November 2024 use our proprietary refrigeration technology, reducing power consumption even at negative temperatures such as -40°C. The ECO-type chambers are particularly energy-efficient for extended operation at low temperatures, such as charge/discharge testing of batteries (cells, modules, and packs) and performance evaluation of electronic components and equipment. As a result, power consumption can be reduced by up to 70%*3 compared to conventional models. In addition, the new models come standard with the low-GWP R-449A refrigerant, contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions in our customers' supply chains.

Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers
- *1: GWP stands for Global Warming Potential. This number uses carbon dioxide as a reference to express the degree of global warming effects of other greenhouse gases. A lower value indicates less environmental load.
- *2: Portal site for Act for Rationalized Use and Proper Management of Fluorocarbons (Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act): http://www.env.go.jp/earth/furon/index.html(Japanese)
- *3: Power consumption comparison of the ECO type (PL-4J-ECO) and the conventional model (PL-4J) at 0°C operation
