[New Product] Up to 70% reduction in power consumption; low GWP R-449A refrigerant (standard installation) for lower greenhouse gas emissions Product Launch: Platinous J Series ECO Type Low Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers
Nov 22, 2024
The new ultra-energy-efficient models in our Low Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers Platinous J Series have been released from ESPEC CORP. (Head Office: Kita-ku Osaka, Representative Director and President: Satoshi Arata)
As carbon neutrality regulations tighten throughout the world, there is a growing demand from customers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their supply chains. In addition, the Japanese government has enacted regulations under the Japan Act for Rationalized Use and Proper Management of Fluorocarbons (Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act) *1, mandating the use of refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP) *2.
ESPEC continues its commitment to precise temperature and humidity control, now with a focus on greater energy efficiency. The new ultra-energy-efficient model features an advanced refrigeration control system that offers up to 70% energy savings for operations below 0°C, compared to standard J series models (based on PL-4J-ECO model).
In addition, the new models come standard with the low GWP R-449A refrigerant, contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions in our customers' supply chains.
As one of the world's leading manufacturers of environmental test chambers, we remain committed to developing environmentally friendly products and services that contribute to a sustainable society.

Platinous J Series ECO Type Low Temperature (& Humidity) Chambers
■Features
Maximizing ECO benefits for long-term testing
The new ECO model is designed for long-term, continuous operation, which is ideal for various industries, including the battery market, while also serving a wide range of other applications such as battery tests such as charge/discharge tests (cells, packs, modules, etc.), storage tests and performance evaluation tests. | ![]() |

A value-added green product
As a global leader in environmental simulation, ESPEC is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its products throughout their lifecycle. Key ECO model benefits include:
- Use of Low Global Warming Potential (Low GWP) refrigerant R-449A
The product comes standard with R-449A, a low GWP refrigerant with low impact on global warming. R-449A (GWP = 1397) reduces the global warming potential by 64% compared to a common HFC refrigerant blend R-404A with a high global warming potential (GWP = 3920). The R-449A is a sustainable alternative refrigerant solution for phase-down of high GWP refrigerants and ESPEC is working on phase out R-404A refrigerant in compliance with worldwide regulations such as EU F-gas regulation and to lessen our chambers' potential environmental impact. - Compliance with RoHS directives and global safety standards
Lineup
The new six models let you select three capacities (225L, 408L, and 800L) and two types (temperature-only or temperature/humidity) to meet your requirements.
Customized solution for battery market
With the ECO type, you get the freedom to customize your chamber according to your applications. The ECO type also provides safety options for testing lithium-ion batteries to EUCAR standards. | ![]() Example of custom specifications: Safe charging and discharging |
Specifications

* With no specimen and under ambient temperature at +23°C
* Restrictions on continuous humidity operation at +40°C lower because of frost on the cooler.
*1:Portal site for Act for Rationalized Use and Proper Management of Fluorocarbons (Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act):http://www.env.go.jp/earth/furon/index.html
*2:GWP stands for Global Warming Potential. This number uses carbon dioxide as a reference to express the degree of global warming effects of other greenhouse gases. A lower value indicates less environmental load.
*3:Power consumption comparison of the ECO type (PL-4J-ECO) and the current model (PL-4J) at 0°C operation
