Selected as a Supplier Engagement Leader, the Top Rank in the CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings for the Second Time in a Row

Mar. 11, 2024

ESPEC CORP. (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka City, Representative Director and President: Satoshi Arata) received the highest rating—an A score—at the FY 2023 Supplier Engagement Ratings conducted by the international NPO CDP* and was selected as a Supplier Engagement Leader for the second time in a row.

The CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings evaluate how companies effectively address the issue of climate change in cooperation with their suppliers. In FY 2023, 458 companies (109 Japanese companies) which responded to the CDP climate change questionnaire were selected as Supplier Engagement Leaders.
ESPEC has established targets for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (SCOPE 1/2 and SCOPE 3), and is carrying out initiatives aimed at preventing global warming and preserving biodiversity. We are strengthening our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout our supply chain, such as by requesting our suppliers to reduce their SCOPE 1/2 emissions by 20% by 2025. In this fiscal year, we launched new initiatives, such as the establishment of an award system to recognize suppliers who have reduced greenhouse gas emissions, support for the introduction of renewable energy, and the publication of a climate change-related information magazine.

For four consecutive years since FY 2020, when we responded to the CDP voluntary climate change survey for the first time, we were certified with a B score. We will continue to strengthen our activities in unison with our suppliers and strive to disclose information proactively.

* The CDP is an international non-profit organization headquartered in London. The CDP works with more than 680 investors with more than 130 trillion USD in assets under management and urges companies and municipalities to disclose environmental information and to work toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting water resources, and conserving forests. In FY2023, approximately 23,000 companies—more than two-thirds of the world’s market capitalization—disclosed environmental information through the CDP.
The CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings evaluate how companies effectively address the issue of climate change in cooperation with their suppliers. The survey related to climate change that is conducted by CDP evaluates companies based on their responses to questions in governance, targets, SCOPE 3 emissions management, and supplier engagement.
