Selected for the First Time as a Supplier Engagement Leader, the Top Rank in the CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings

Mar. 27, 2023

ESPEC CORP. (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka City, Representative Director and President: Satoshi Arata) received the highest rating—an A score—at the FY 2022 Supplier Engagement Ratings conducted by the international NPO CDP, and was selected for the first time as a Supplier Engagement Leader.

The CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings evaluate how companies effectively address the issue of climate change in cooperation with their suppliers. In FY 2022, the top 8% of companies which responded to the CDP climate change questionnaire (131 Japanese companies out of 653 companies worldwide) were selected as Supplier Engagement Leaders.
ESPEC has established targets for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (SCOPE 1/2 and SCOPE 3), and is carrying out initiatives aimed at preventing global warming and preserving biodiversity. We believe that when reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it is important to enact improvements not only at our company but throughout the supply chain including at suppliers, and we are actively engaged in study meetings and other activities together with our suppliers. We have requested that suppliers reduce SCOPE 1/2 emissions by 20% by 2025 as we aim to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. These kinds of initiatives were evaluated highly, and led to our company being selected.

For three consecutive years since FY 2020, when we responded to the CDP voluntary climate change survey for the first time, we were certified with a B score. We will continue to carry out initiatives related to climate change throughout our supply chain, as well as actively disclose information.

CDP

CDP is an international non-profit organization that operates a global environmental disclosure platform. They survey climate change, conservation of water resources, forest preservation, and other environmental measures taken by cities and corporations, and rank them in a system of eight grades (A, A-, B, B-, C, C-, D, and D-). Worldwide, there are some 680 investor organizations (with 130 trillion USD in total assets under management) from whom CDP received disclosure requests. In FY2022, more than 18,700 companies, or about half of the world's market capitalization, disclosed environmental information through CDP. The climate change survey will evaluate efforts toward goal setting, business strategy and recognition of risks and opportunities with regards to climate change, and disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions.
The CDP Supplier Engagement Ratings evaluate how companies effectively address the issue of climate change in cooperation with their suppliers. The survey related to climate change that is conducted by CDP evaluates companies based on their responses to questions in four main areas (governance, targets, SCOPE 3 emissions management, and supplier engagement).
