Mid-term Environmental Plan

[Completion of 4th Midterm Environmental Plan "ESPEC 2012 Green Plan"]

Concerning global warming countermeasures, CO2 emissions for 1990, including activities of affiliated companies and workplaces where elimination and consolidation have been implemented, have been studied in detail. The study revealed that 6700 metric tons of CO2 were emitted during fiscal 1990.

On the other hand, as a result of introducing environmental management in 1996 and striving to reduce the amount of CO2 released, emissions were curtailed to about 4700 metric tons in 2010 (production and clerical sectors). It also appears that emissions will fall significantly below our original target of 6% reduction in comparison with the 1990 level (6300 tons or less) for 2012. Thus, this brings our 4th midterm environmental plan, "ESPEC 2012 Green Plan," to a close for fiscal 2010. The 5th midterm environmental plan with revised targets, and which includes themes other than measures to deal with global warming, will begin in 2011.

[5th Midterm Environmental Plan (FY2011 - FY2013)]

Beginning in 2011, the company will seek to contribute to customers who are developing low-carbon technologies; our most important policy will be to "contribute to prevention of global warming." The following comprehensive CO2 emission reduction targets that include product and service sectors (commissioned testing) as well as the production and clerical sectors originally targeted by the program, have been established:

  • FY2013: Minimum total 7000 metric ton reduction
  • FY2011: Minimum total 2700 metric ton reduction

* Figures for comprehensive CO2 emission reduction are arrived at by adding reduction of amount of CO2 emitted annually by products used by customers, amount of CO2 emitted by commissioned testing, and amount of CO2 emitted by production and clerical sectors.
